WHO CAN VOLUNTEER

A few things to know

HSTF is looking for volunteers who are  18+ years of age and are no longer in high school. After you apply, we will contact you to schedule a conversation and determine whether there is a good fit based on your interests, availability, and current program needs.

WAYS TO VOLUNTEER

Find the opportunity that fits you

There are several ways to support HSTF youth, programs, events, and community work.

Mentor

Mentors support youth in 11th and 12th grade as they explore college, career, and life after high school. Mentors may help with hands-on workshops, academic support, college or career exploration, applications, essays, scholarships, and relationship-building.

It’s a good fit for:

  • Adults interested in supporting high school students
  • Volunteers with college, career, or postsecondary experience to share
  • People who want to build a supportive relationship with a young person over time
Time commitment: Minimum of one meeting per month throughout the school year. Mentoring typically happens during the school year.

Tutor

Tutors help youth in grades 8–12 with academic subjects such as math, science, history, English, foreign languages, SAT preparation, and current schoolwork. Tutors are matched with youth based on student needs, volunteer interests, and availability.

It’s a good fit for:

  • Adults interested in academic support
  • Volunteers with subject-area knowledge or tutoring experience
  • People who can offer consistent support during the school year
Time commitment: Once matched, tutoring is typically about one hour per week.

Group Volunteering

HSTF works with organizations, companies, and college clubs interested in serving Boston’s Latin Quarter community. Group volunteer projects may include supporting HSTF events, helping prepare materials, sharing information about upcoming programs, or completing community-based projects.

It’s a good fit for:

  • Companies
  • College clubs
  • Community groups
  • Organizations looking for a volunteer opportunity

Other Volunteer Opportunities

HSTF also welcomes volunteers who can support events, college and career workshops, administrative projects, fundraising tasks, and community organizing needs.

Examples may include:

  • Guest college and career facilitators
  • Event volunteers
  • Administrative and fundraising volunteers
  • Community organizing volunteers

We’re looking for volunteers to help young people expand their understanding of what’s possible
