Youth Organizing for JEA and Caminos
ABOUT YOUTH ORGANIZING
Young people leading real campaigns
HSTF youth organizing opportunities include training and workshops on topics such as community-based advocacy, the basics of city government, and community organizing. With this training in place, young people are equipped to collaborate with one another and HSTF staff to develop and implement campaigns focused on issues that are important to them.
The goal is not only to teach youth about civic engagement, but to support them as they lead real campaigns, build leadership skills, and see the impact they can have in their communities.
WHAT YOUTH BUILD
Training, leadership, and action
Organizing skills
Youth learn about community-based advocacy, city government, campaign strategy, and organizing tools.
Leadership experience
Participants work with peers and HSTF staff to identify issues, plan campaigns, and take action.
Community impact
Youth organizers work toward real outcomes while developing skills they can carry into school, work, and civic life.
CAMPAIGNS AND COMMUNITY CHANGE
Youth addressing real issues
HSTF youth organizers have led advocacy work connected to issues such as grocery pricing inequity, reopening a local community center and pool in Boston’s Latin Quarter, and renovating a neighborhood park.
Through this work, youth have helped secure public funding, influence policy, and gain decision-making power in city planning processes. Most importantly, they learn that they can help shape their world.

RELATED OPPORTUNITY
LSJS Youth Organizing
HSTF also offers LSJS Youth Organizing, a separate opportunity for young people ages 15–19 who live in or are connected to Jackson Square and are interested in advocacy and community leadership.
Participating in Hyde Square Task Force has given me a place where I feel supported and seen. It’s helped me grow as a leader and reminded me that my voice matters in my community.
