Cultural Immersion Trips

Through HSTF’s culturally grounded programming, participants in Caminos and Jóvenes en Acción may have opportunities to take part in cultural immersion trips that deepen their understanding of Afro-Latin culture and strengthen their sense of identity, connection, and community.

ABOUT CULTURAL IMMERSION TRIPS

Learning through place, culture, and shared experience

HSTF’s cultural immersion trips give young people a more direct and immersive experience of Afro-Latin culture. These experiences connect youth with artists, cultural landmarks, community organizations, and places that help bring history, identity, arts, and civic engagement to life.

Trips also create meaningful bonding opportunities between HSTF youth and staff, giving participants time to learn and reflect together and to build relationships outside regular programming.

PAST CULTURAL IMMERSION EXPERIENCES

Puerto Rico and New York City

Recent cultural immersion trips have brought HSTF youth to places connected to Afro-Latin culture, arts, history, and community leadership.

In Puerto Rico, youth visited cultural, environmental, artistic, and community spaces in Adjuntas, Ponce, Loíza, San Juan, and Río Piedras.

In New York City, youth experienced Afro-Latin arts, history, higher education, and community leadership through Broadway, Spanish Harlem, City College of New York, and Brotherhood Sister Sol.

LOOKING AHEAD

Future cultural immersion experiences

HSTF is planning a return to Puerto Rico in 2026 with a similar focus on Afro-Latin culture, arts, civic engagement, and community connection.

Totalmente, una forma de reconocer que con esfuerzo puedes lograr grandes cosas. Por otro lado, entiendo mejor mi relación con mi cultura y mis raíces, y me conecto más con ella.
